Implants and Breastfeeding Whether It Can?

Hello ladies! I'm 33 weeks pregnant and planning to breastfeeding my baby. I have two kids already (12 and 6 years old and breastfeeding is not one of them). Since both my babies have breast implants. I have read books about it and they say it's OK and no effect productionand safe milk for babies. My incision is under my breast ... not around my nipples. My concern is that I am implantable MORE muscle, not under. Everything I read said that breastfeeding does not matter b / c implants placed under the muscle. Does anyone know anything about this? Any advice / imput would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Kerry126, I have breast implants and I am good with them. Mine is under the muscle and has a ton of milk supply. As long as your dr does not cut through the milk duct, you should be fine. My sil got breast implants and dr cut her milk ducts so now she can not bf ever but I am sure the dr will tell you this if it happens. ...... You should be fine, though. Oh, and on top of these muscles I'm not too sure about but I've heard there are problems with both. ......

I have an aunt who had breast implants, on top of muscles, and then went on to have two more children, both of whom she breastfed for more than a year. He produces a lot of milk, do not have any problems with breastfeeding. But like Dani said, if they cut your milk ducts during the operation, you will not be able to.

Thank you! This may be a silly question, but it is the milk duct which is located at the bottom (in the fold down side your bread), around your areola or the entire whole of your breast? My Doc. do not say anything to me about it. Hopefully all will be fine, I just feel nervous.

They're all over the breast. I have read that the channel can actually heal itself! So even if they cut there is a good chance you can still bf.

They are behind the nipple will retreat toward your ribs, if that makes sense. I have a book in my childbirth class at a hospital that has a picture of the breast / mammary gland and all the nursing. Also, in my parenting book by Dr. Sears, there are a few diagrams ... there may be some books in your local bookstore or library that will have diagram that will show you where everything is located. You may discuss all your problems with dr. if you have not, and if they offer a breastfeeding class at your hospital will give, I highly recommend taking it ... I know classes are not for everyone, but I'm really nervous about breastfeeding, and now I take my classes understand much better and feel more prepared, so I was not nervous. Good luck!

Implants and Breastfeeding

Women often ask for consultation whether or not breast implants can make it difficult or even impossible, to breastfeed their children.

Here are some basics:

Not every woman can successfully breastfeed, whether or not she has implants
In and of itself, breast implants do not interfere with breastfeeding
What can affect breastfeeding, however, is the location of the incision is placed to insert a breast implant (s).
If the incision is made below the breast fold (called the inframammary fold) or through an incision under the armpit (called the transaxillary incision) there should not be any problems breastfeeding, at least not a problem from the incision.

However, if the implant is inserted through an incision around the areola, it is possible that, if the nerve or the milk ducts are severed or damaged, breastfeeding can be difficult or even impossible. That's because the nerves in the control of the areola and prolactin hormone oxytocin, which triggers the brain to produce milk. If the nerves are damaged, "signal" to the brain may not work properly, then, no milk or too little milk will be produced.

It is recommended that patients do not have children to avoid areolar incisions and chose to flip inframammary or transaxillary incision, so do not worry at all about the impact on breastfeeding.

It should be noted that the nursing mother can develop infection of the nipple due to dryness and cracking, or they can develop mastitis. This infection can spread into the breast pocket that "home" so that the pocket implant is infected. This can cause problems and even implant may need to remove the implant.

If you have not completed your family, in suggest that you discuss this issue with us at your consultation, to ensure both of us are in complete agreement about the location of your incision.

Finally, breast-feeding often causes breast to droop. An implant will not prevent the sagging. After feeding, the breast lift may be required to lift the breasts back into position them perkier. This procedure can be performed alone or in combination with a Mommy Makeover, which addresses sagging belly and stretch marks.

As an aside, in case any concerns about silicone leaking from breast implants, there is no evidence that silicone can leak into breast milk, but even if that happens, it probably will not harm the baby, because silicon is very similar to the substance used to treat stomach gas baby.

The bottom line: breast implants will not affect the ability to breastfeed or produce milk.
